Remember how your mother told you to drink your milk so you can grow big and strong? There’s a reason why you should list to mom because she’s right! Calcium is vital in helping prevent osteoporosis, that’s why June is designated as National Dairy Month.
Dairy & Tooth Decay
Research done by Nutrition Australia states that milk and dairy products can actually reduce tooth decay. Not only do they contain calcium and phosphorus, but also “proteins called caseins, which combine together to form a protective film on the enamel – or the surface of your teeth.”
So what does this mean for tooth decay? The coating helps to prevent your teeth from incurring decay. Calcium helps strengthen and repair tooth enamel that has started to dissolve due to acid attacks.
Pick Milk Over Soda
If the kids are bothering you for something to drink, consider milk. Limit the number of sugary drinks.
