Don’t Overindulge on National Toasted Marshmallow Day

You can’t go through the summer without making s’mores. So. on National Toasted Marshmallow Day have an extra one for us! However, it’s important to understand the effect of that s’mores on your teeth.


First, those big bags of marshmallows are not good for your teeth. They contain a high amount of sugar that will attack your teeth.

What’s even worse is when you toast the marshmallow over a campfire. It becomes melted, sticky and gooey. This is bad for people with braces since the gooey gets stuck. This stickiness is also bad for people with dentures.

Graham Crackers

Graham crackers go perfectly with that toasted marshmallow and chocolate. What’s nice is graham crackers have less sugar in them than most of your favorite cookies.


Supposedly, research shows that chocolate can actually be good for teeth. Dark chocolate, with at least 70 percent cocoa, has health benefits for your teeth. Dark chocolate is high in antioxidants, which helps fight gum disease.

It’s also high in tannins, which prevents bacteria from sticking to your teeth. If you do indulge in s’mores this summer, it is best to use dark chocolate with 70% cocoa.

As always, take care of your teeth after enjoying s’mores. Rinse your mouth out with water and brush and floss thoroughly.
