5 Tips for Cavities Prevention

Cavities occur when foods containing carbohydrates cling to the teeth. The bacteria that lives in the mouth turns this type of food into acids that react with the plaque on the tooth surface, damaging the enamel and creating a hole. This can be easily prevented by practicing proper oral and dental hygiene at home. Here are some tips that can help prevent cavities and tooth decay:

Brush regularly with fluoride toothpaste: You should brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes with a fluoride-containing toothpaste.

Rinse with mouthwash: After brushing and flossing, rinse with mouthwash for added protection against tooth decay. A mouthwash with fluoride can help your teeth be more resistant to decay.

Avoid Frequent Snacking: Frequent snacking and drinking sweets can increase the chances of tooth decay. The more you snack, the more your teeth get exposed to acids that erode the enamel. If you can’t decrease the frequency of snacking, at least remember to rinse your mouth or wash your teeth after every snack.

Drink Tap Water: Most cities have added fluoride to their public water supply. Fluoride contributes to your teeth by strengthening the tooth enamel and preventing early tooth decay. Bottled water doesn’t provide fluoride benefits.
